Medina Azahara was designed to impress visitors and demonstrate the power and sophistication of the Caliphate of Córdoba. Today, it remains an essential destination for anyone wishing to understand the rich history and heritage of Córdoba.

A knowledgeable guide is highly recommended to fully appreciate the remains of this city, buried for centuries. The site reveals the former political and civil heart of the Caliphate, and its architecture and decorative art influenced Islamic design for generations.

  • Medina Azahara is located 7 km from Córdoba, so transportation is required.
  • Price per person: €6 (includes entrance and shuttle bus) to be paid in the spot.
  • You will also need to add a taxi from the centre of Córdoba to the Visitor Centre, from where you will take the shuttle bus—expect around €20.
