Málaga, often called the City of Paradise, has enjoyed this reputation for over a thousand years, thanks to its stunning bay, subtropical climate, and abundant freshwater sources that have long sustained agriculture and local life.
On this walking tour, you’ll discover the city’s rich layers of history: Roman ruins nestled beside a Moorish castle, a historic centre of narrow winding streets from the Muslim period, and the elegant Calle Larios, a striking example of 19th-century bourgeois wealth during the industrial revolution. The city’s historic district also boasts lively tapas bars, sophisticated restaurants, and remarkable museums. Málaga is famously the birthplace of Pablo Ruiz Picasso, one of the most important painters of the 20th century — and we’ll trace his footsteps throughout the tour.
Your journey begins at Plaza de la Merced, home to Picasso’s birthplace, before strolling down Calle Granada, exploring lively streets and tapas bars along the way. Admire the Roman Theatre and the exterior of the Alcazaba, then continue through Calle Alcazabilla and meander through the historic Jewish Quarter. Visit the Cathedral of Málaga and pause at Plaza del Obispo before walking down Calle Larios, the city’s main shopping street, to Plaza de la Constitución. Finally, conclude your tour at Muelle Uno, the modern harbour promenade, enjoying sea views and the vibrant local atmosphere.
This tour offers the perfect introduction to Málaga, letting you savour its charm, bustling street life, and radiant Mediterranean light.
