BOOK A 15-MIN CALL

This is the story of Picasso’s love affair with Barcelona, and how the streets of the Old Town shaped the early life and artistic vision of Pablo Picasso. Arriving in Barcelona at just thirteen, Picasso discovered art, friendship and freedom in the Gothic Quarter and El Born. Here he formed relationships that influenced him deeply—most notably with Carles Casagemas, whose tragic death marked the beginning of Picasso’s powerful Blue Period.
Picasso in the Gothic Quarter and El Born
As we walk through the narrow streets of the Old Town, you’ll see the balconies, rooftops and corners that inspired the young Picasso and later appeared in his early paintings. At the turn of the 20th century, Barcelona was changing rapidly under the Industrial Revolution, and this vibrant atmosphere shaped his artistic awakening. We’ll visit key places from his youth, including the street where he shared his first studio with other young artists.
The tour also introduces Picasso’s first exhibitions, his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, and the creative world of modernist Barcelona through the café Els 4 Gats, a meeting point for avant-garde artists. And we’ll touch on the bohemian, sometimes darker, nights of Barcelona that left their mark on him.
We finish in El Born at the Picasso Museum, housed in five medieval palaces. Designed with Picasso’s input, the museum is a tribute to his lifelong connection with Barcelona. Its collection of more than 4,000 works—including the Blue Period, early Cubism and the Las Meninas series—offers an essential insight into Picasso’s evolution into one of the most influential artists of all time.
