Castilla-La Mancha: the journey of Don Quixote
Miguel de Cervantes wrote the firts sentence of Don Quixote‘s adventures: “In a town in La Mancha, whose name I do not wish to recall…“
In the centre of Spain, south of Madrid and North of Andalucia, we find this beautiful extensive area, with wide rural horizons. The place where Miguel de Cervantes set the most influential Spanish novel: the adventures of Don Quixote de la Mancha and his loyal friend Sancho. Together they travelled all over Spain to save the gorgeous Dulcinea, fighting giants and questioning the world.
windmills, vineyards and castles
Castilla-La Mancha is the region you must visit if you want to experience that typical postcard of Spain with the windmills and flat rural horizon. Can you guess? Our home-page picture is there, at Consuegra! So we would definitely love to show them to you.
This mythical region of mountain ranges and plains is filled with vineyards, castles and windmills. There are so many small wineries to visit! Some of them are traditional winemakers, while others experiment with winemaking methods based on astrological concepts. It is surprising Valdepeñas town, where you can see the Bodegas inside the city. Located there to have better control and protection from buglers and Bandoleros!
day excursions from Madrid
Cuenca is one of these medieval towns, built upon cliffs and rocks with such a charming vibe that you’d like to stay overnight! But without a doubt, the most famous city in Castilla-La Mancha is Toledo. A crossroad of cultures and the first capital of Spain. You can visit it with us as in a day excursion from Madrid or if staying in Toledo for a night with our fabulous local guides.
TRANSPORTATION & DURATION
Castilla-La Mancha is vast, large and mostly still agricultural. To experience the rural landscape from Madrid it is, in general, necessary a car and driver are possible with only a few options by train. To visit some of the towns scattered it is a great option to organize a night in a Parador hotel
