BOOK A 15-MIN CALL

Just an hour’s drive from Barcelona, Montserrat is a striking mountain that captivates visitors with its dramatic rock formations, breathtaking views, and spiritual significance. This full-day excursion takes you to the heart of the mountain’s shrine area, home to the Benedictine Monastery. Inside the Basilica, you’ll see La Moreneta, the revered Black Madonna, and, when available, listen to the angelic voices of the Escolania boys’ choir.
If time and availability allow, you can take a funicular for panoramic views or enjoy a scenic walk to Saint Michael’s Cross, offering even more spectacular vistas of the surrounding landscape. Montserrat is a perfect destination for those seeking a sacred mountain experience, hiking opportunities, or simply awe-inspiring scenery.
Montserrat Monastery and History
The Monastery of Montserrat is the focal point of the mountain and has been a spiritual hub for over a thousand years. The name “Montserrat” means “serrated mountain,” a nod to its jagged peaks. Archaeological finds in nearby caves confirm human presence in this area long before the monastery was founded. For those wishing to fully immerse themselves in the mountain’s mystical atmosphere, staying at the hotel near the monastery is an option.
La Escolania and La Moreneta
The Escolania is one of the world’s most famous boys’ choirs, housed in a boarding school where students live from Sunday to Friday. The choir performs daily during the noon prayer (except Saturdays and holidays), singing hymns dedicated to La Moreneta, meaning “the little tanned one” in reference to her dark skin. Experiencing the choir is a moving way to connect with the spiritual and cultural heart of Montserrat.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, Montserrat also offers excellent hiking opportunities. Trails provide fresh mountain air, spectacular scenery, and a chance to connect with the natural beauty of the region.
To ensure a better experience, we recommend taking this tour on weekdays, avoiding larger crowds at the Montserrat Shrine on weekends. For the same reason, the tour is not available on public holidays.
The excursion begins with an early pick-up in Barcelona at 8:00 or 8:30 am, allowing for an early arrival and a more relaxed exploration. For the perfect conclusion, we suggest enjoying lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant near Montserrat, savouring the region’s authentic flavours.
A chauffeured service is required for this day excursion. Prices vary based on the number of participants and the type of vehicle needed. Please contact us for a personalised quote or to make a reservation.
