La Alhambra Essential Walking Tour

0

La Alhambra is the first Spanish monument to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984: the best-preserved medieval Islamic fortress, hiding a charming palace and dreamy gardens. Layers of history and stories for every taste. An absolute must-see in Spain.

Explore the heart of the Alhambra with a guided visit to the Nasrid Palaces, the mighty Alcazaba fortress, and the enchanting Generalife Gardens. This visit offers a rich blend of Islamic architecture, history, and serene beauty. Its intricate details and panoramic views are truly unforgettable—far beyond what words can capture. This in-depth experience lasts approximately 3 to 4 hours, providing a comprehensive exploration of Granada’s most treasured monument.

Fusion of art and history:
For 260 years, Granada was the capital of the last Muslim kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula: the Nasrid Emirate. The city flourished as a cultural and political centre of great importance. In the heart of Granada, on the hill of the Sabika, stands the majestic Alhambra is also known as “the red”.

In 1492, the history of Spain took a decisive turn with the capture of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs. From then on, La Alhambra became a symbol of Christian victory. The construction of the Palace of Carlos V added a new architectural style to the complex. Today, the Alhambra and the Generalife represent a unique fusion of Islamic and Renaissance art, reflecting Granada’s rich cultural history.

During the visit to this emblematic monument of Granada, we will be captivated by the beauty of the Nasrid Palaces, where light, water and geometry create spaces full of magic and spirituality. The delicate epigraphy that adorns the walls turns the Alhambra into a palace that describes itself, revealing the symbolic depth of Nasrid art.

The gardens of the Generalife, also known as Yannat al Arif, invite us to enjoy a unique sensory experience in Granada. Its gardens and fountains represent the power of water as a symbol of purity, life and spirituality.

To top the tour, we will climb the towers of the Alcazaba, the ancient military fortress. From there, the panoramic view of Granada will give us an unforgettable image of the Albayzin district, the fertile plain of Granada and the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada.
